Why does my cat have the “catnip reaction” to Burts Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion?
My cat always has a strong reaction whenever I use Burts Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion. She acts exactly the same way as she does with catnip. She rolls around in it, licks it, and burrows into fabric that has touched it. What ingredient in it is affecting her? My other cat completely ignores it, but loves catnip.

Peppermint and catnip are both members of the mint family. Most cats will react to catnip; a few will react to ANY mint, including catmint (a low-growing relative of catnip), spearmint, and wintergreen.
Some cats take it a step further. When I visit my closest friend, I have to literally hide my menthol cigarettes, or her cat Bailey will shred and eat them!
